Residents, leaders learn about LNG plant

Venture Global’s plans for an LNG plant in Cameron brought scores of residents and community leaders out Thursday to learn about the company’s multibillion-dollar project.

More than 80 people gathered in the Cameron Parish School Board Conference Center for a two-hour open house in which residents were given the opportunity to ask questions and get information on the $4.25 billion Calcasieu Pass project.

Attendees were shown various maps of the facility and were given handouts on the project.

“It’s a good thing if (this project) goes through,” said Cameron resident James Boudreaux, who serves as road foreman for the parish. “Right now, we’re just hoping that something does come down here. It’ll bring jobs and help bring people back (to Cameron Parish). And maybe some of our kids can stay home instead of leaving.”

Cameron resident Brent Morales, owner of Coastal Cans, said the Calcasieu Pass project will create a lot of jobs for the parish’s young adults, a group that has had few employment opportunities in the region over the past several years.
